A good text or translation is invaluable. How much time it takes to write, translate or correct a text doesn't just depend on the length, there are other aspects to take into consideration. For example, how much research is needed, where will you use the text and what else needs to be done? Writing a text takes more time than translating, while editing and correcting take less time.
Every text and every client is unique, and that's why you won't find a list of standard rates here. For each assignment, I estimate the number of hours I will need to provide the service you want. Then I’ll discuss this with you so we can agree the scope and project fee. I’m a member of ZZP Nederland, an organisation for independent professionals in the Netherlands, and I always work with a written agreement for each assignment, so we both know where we stand.
For more information about translation and all that’s involved, you can download the booklet ‘Translation: Getting it Right’ below. Here you will find answers to questions such as:
What’s the difference between an interpreter and a translator?
How important is style and word choice?
What factors affect the price of a translation?
